Here is a short list of the most important things you should know about Czech fines:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol is judged very severely, it is a criminal act if you are driving with a blood alcohol level exceeding 0.1%. We strongly advise you to be careful with alcohol consumption before driving.
- There is a points system used here in the Czech Republic, every driver has 12 points, and for traffic misdemeanours the driver receives a points deduction ranging from 1 to 7 points, also financial penalties or fines are additional to all points deductions and relevant for most transgressions. If a driver looses all their points, they are forbidden to drive for a one-year period; for every 12 months without any offence the driver has 3 points restored.
- In other cases cash fines for small infractions are given to drivers from 1,000 to 3,000 Czech crowns.
- Be aware of illegal or bad parking in towns, there is a high risk that when you come back to your car you will find it with a wheel lock or in the worse case you won’t find it at all because the police would have had your car towed away. In both cases, it is not only a waste of money, but also a waste of your valuable time not to mention the hassle.
